We're apple picking

We went apple picking at Simmons Farm this morning (where we got our Christmas tree three years ago, when I was pregnant with Jack). The forecast was for 48 degrees at 10, which is when we got there, so we were all bundled up, but it ended up not being quite so blustery.
Our friends Sue and her kids were just leaving the animals as we were getting to the farm, and I managed to let a quick pregnant goat out of the petting zoo pen. I was trying to hold two in with my legs, but one escaped. They're quite determined animals. Sue managed to capture it in the parking lot and carried it back to the pen. Thanks, Sue.

Jack surveying the crop.

The whole way up the hill, he was waving a stick and singing, "We're apple picking, we're apple picking..."

I was trying to get Gail here, but I framed myself instead.

Jack picking an Ida Red.

There she is. An out-of-focus Gail.

A full peck.

Minus one Ida. And on the way home, he ate an entire LARGE Jonagold-- including a bit of core.

Ami-yul-yuls!

Ugly birds.

Starting to see some colors in the trees.

Now I have to find some more apple recipes. I've made three apple pies in the past week- two were for Teams- so we need something new to try. Any suggestions?

What a great outing with your kids!

What a fun-looking trip. I'm so glad Jack loves apples! Oh, and try this: Sautee some kale with chopped apples, currants of raisins (or any dried fruit), walnuts, and a bit of Bragg's liquid aminos or any other kind of seasoning, and you're set. So good, and a great way to prepare kale for the nonbelievers out there.
