“A sad tale’s best for winter” says Mamillius, just before his mother Hermione is arrested. Her husband Leontes, King of Sicilia, has convinced himself that Hermione is guilty of infidelity. He falls deeper into this pit of jealousy, plotting the murder of his best friend King Polixenes of Bohemia and the conviction of his wife, until he finally does something he cannot take back and collapses into despair. But winter does not last forever, and a happy tale suits springtime. Hermione’s lost daughter Perdita is found again and sets off to unknowingly make things right."
Jack has been our resident thespian the past few years, but Iris stepped right up at the end of last year and tried out for our homeschool drama's Shakespeare play,
The Winter's Tale. She got the part of Emilia, one of Queen Hermione's lady in waiting.
I got to help out during tech week, painting the set and getting a sneak peek at the their first costumed run-through.

I got to go to the show on Friday, opening night, with Abby, Opal, Toby, and Joel. Opal and Toby went to watch all three shows, as I was there anyway :-D

For Saturday evening's and Sunday's matinee performances I got to be the backstage parent, helping with props, aging the actors with make-up when time had passed, and anything else that needed to be done back there, so my view was a little different.

They did an outstanding job, as always. I'm so grateful for their dedicated director and how much she pours into these kids and performances, for all that they learn in the process! I can't wait to find out what play they'll be doing next year. I hear it might
not be Shakespeare, which it has been the past four years. We shall see...
