Five on Friday

1. After yesterday's follow-up appointment, Dr. Twan said he was looking much better, but he now has a bit of an ear infection in his left ear.

Taking one of his many medications. He has to breathe albuterol through his nebulizer for ten minutes each four times a day.

2. While Mike is home for a long weekend, we are attempting to make some progress on the potty training front. Jack's been sporting his new big boy undies, and so far, we've been three for three with accidents. He definitely tries to make it there in time though and seems plenty ready. We'll see how this weekend goes.

3. We're just training all around this weekend. Abigail needs sleep training. In a big way. I've been reading Weissbluth's Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, and we are going to try to ease both kids into a completely new sleep schedule-- starting with a much earlier bedtime and a morning nap for Abigail. Since our visit to Children's on Tuesday night, both kids have been out of sorts and sleep deprived (Not Happy Children), though Abigail's sleep problems go way back. I remember going through this same thing with Jack. He went through a phase in which he didn't sleep nearly as much as he should. After sleep training him, he was oh so much pleasanter. Happy child.

4. Last night was the first night of said sleep training. It didn't go so well, as she had a really terrible sounding cough, and because of this, I thought she should have some fluids, so I gave in and nursed her around 4:45 am. After this, though, she kept coughing- every 30 seconds or so. So I couldn't sleep, and she clearly wasn't getting any good sleep. I try to avoid waking Mike in the night because his severe grogginess usually renders him useless in the wee hours of the morning. Out of desperation last night, I woke him to ask what he thought we should do about her cough. After a minute or so of trying to orient himself, I nudged him and asked again, and he responded "Maybe we could take out her network card." Nevermind.

5. After my 17 + mile run on Sunday, my knees have been giving me some problems. I got some cheap knee supports yesterday and ran with them today, and they seem to help a lot. I'm not worried about them. I just hope they don't cause me too much pain during the race.
